The demand for gluten-free products is growing fast, but for many food processors, it comes with big challenges—especially cleaning.

Walter Findlay Ltd (WFL), is a fourth-generation, family-owned company based in Gisborne. They produce bread, small goods, and food coatings to major brands such as Sealord.

Every three months, WFL runs a gluten-free production cycle. Before Tenax®, this meant shutting down for three full days to clean equipment before switching back to gluten products. That downtime was costly and inefficient.

The Challenge:
Nelson Site Manager Rodney Watson explains, “Each gluten-free run meant major downtime. We needed a smarter, faster way to clean while ensuring a clear gluten-free result.”

The Solution: Tenax®
During a discussion with Hygiene Technologies, WFL learned about Tenax. Unlike traditional foaming chemicals, Tenax® thickens when diluted to the right percentage. It clings to surfaces for better coverage. It penetrates soil effectively and rinses off easily when diluted further with water.

The Results:
Rodney and his team were amazed. Cleaning time dropped from three days to just 19 hours, with a clear gluten-free result after the first stage. They also saw improvements in hard-to-clean areas like the breadcrumb setting conveyor. They now use Tenax® weekly.

Why Tenax® Works:

  • Prolonged adherence to surfaces
  • Extended contact time for superior sanitation
  • Reduced need for manual labor, hot water, and repeated applications

Tenax® does most of the work for you. The Tenax® range is MPI and AsureQuality approved.
